I left the pass around 5:30 a.m. with excellent frost but decidedly high temperatures. To cross the Valletta Pass and descend 150 meters, there's a steep drop with very icy ground. The climb to Lucendro is well marked and you can easily reach the ski depot saddle. The last few meters are steep, followed by a short ridge on foot to the cross with a truly remarkable circular panorama. The descent to the Lucendro Pass around 9 was unexciting, and I hoisted my skis back into my backpack and reached a few meters from Fibbia, where I took a break. The descent to the Gotthard Pass was on compact snow at the top, then very wet and heavy.
